Who am I and why this website?

Detailed information about me is here. This is my personal and non-commercial website funded entirely by my personal funds. The topics of journal (or blog) posts revolve around my interests and experiences. The intent behind documenting them include

  1. improve my writing,
  2. identify interconnections, and
  3. ala meaningful comments in computer programming/software development, serve as notes to myself so that I don’t re-invent the wheel at a later point in my life.

If the contents float your boat, then feel free to use it. But note that you will be doing so at your own discretion and neither I nor my website will be responsible for your triumphs and tribulations, and losses and gains.

What personal data is collected and why?

Trust me … I have more than a full time job that I love, handful of healthy habits and hobbies that I am fully committed to and a pantheon of amazing friends I enjoy spending time with. My work, hobbies and habits generate sufficient data on their own to keep me busy until the cows come home. So, I really don’t have any time or interest to unnecessarily process yours. Neither do I lack the moral backbone to sell it to make a few quick cents.

Feel free to read through what exactly WordPress, the content management system powering this website, and the plugins employed to enhance the overall experience do with your data.

  1. Comment and Contact Forms

When visitors leave comments on the site, the data shown in the comments form is collected, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

  2. Cookies

If you leave a comment, then you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

  3. Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

  4. How long is your data retained?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is to recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

  5. What’s done with your data?

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
